A Day of Remembrance, Reflection, and Regimental Pride
Our Founder Joanne and her husband Ashley will attend a special event on Saturday 27 June 2026. The Welsh Guards community will come together in Wrexham for a deeply significant day of remembrance: the Welsh Guards Afghanistan Memorial Unveiling.

This event will honour Welsh Guardsmen and attached personnel who made the ultimate sacrifice during Operation Herrick 10 & 16 in Afghanistan, as well as those lost in earlier conflicts, including the Falklands War.
It will bring together serving soldiers, veterans, families, and friends of the Regiment in a shared act of remembrance, unity, and respect.
A Permanent Memorial of Sacrifice and Service
At the centre of the day will be the unveiling of a newly commissioned memorial dedicated to Welsh Guardsmen and attached personnel who lost their lives during operational service.
Crafted from a single piece of Welsh slate sourced from Blaenau Ffestiniog, the memorial bears the names of 12 members of the Welsh Guards battlegroup. It stands as a permanent place of remembrance, reflection, and respect for those who made the ultimate sacrifice during operations in Afghanistan.

The decision to place the memorial in Wrexham reflects the city’s strong connection to remembrance within the Welsh Guards family, alongside its established links through the annual Falklands Memorial Day. The Welsh Guards were also honoured with the Freedom of the City of Wrexham in 2014, strengthening its historic connection with the Regiment.
Programme for the Day
The event will follow a structured programme of remembrance and regimental activity:
Morning Service. 11:00 am – Church service at St Giles’ Church, Wrexham (Meeting point at the church entrance, LL13 8LS)
Parade and Remembrance. Following the service a Parade and march through the city. Led by the Regimental Band of the Welsh Guards
Wreath-laying ceremony at Bodhyfryd Memorial Gardens
Community Reception. 12:30 pm – Reception at the Wrexham and District War Memorial Club
Evening gathering with entertainment and buffet. Opportunity for serving personnel, veterans, and families to come together informally
This combination of formal remembrance and community gathering reflects the Regimental tradition of honouring the fallen while supporting those who continue to serve.
A Personal Connection: JB Property Law and the Welsh Guards
This event holds particular personal significance for JB Property Law, and for founder Joanne Bowmer. Joanne’s husband, Ashley, is a former soldier who served alongside the Welsh Guards, and will be attending the memorial unveiling in Wrexham.
His connection to the Regiment brings a deeply personal perspective to the day of remembrance, reflecting the lived experience of those who have served.
As Ashley notes:
This is a deeply significant day for the Welsh Guards family. It is about remembrance, respect, and ensuring the sacrifice of our colleagues is never forgotten. It is an honour to stand alongside families, friends, and comrades as we pay tribute to those we lost.”
Commitment to the Armed Forces Community
Through both personal experience and professional practice, JB Property Law maintains a strong commitment to supporting the Armed Forces community. This includes recognition of:
Serving personnel and veterans
Military families and dependants
The ongoing legacy of service and sacrifice
The firm understands the unique challenges faced by those connected to military life, particularly in relation to housing, relocation, and legal matters. Attendance at the Welsh Guards Memorial Unveiling reflects this ongoing commitment, as well as a personal dedication to remembrance and service.
The Importance of the Memorial
The Welsh Guards Afghanistan Memorial represents more than a physical structure. It stands as:
A permanent tribute to those who lost their lives in service
A place of reflection for families and comrades
A symbol of regimental unity across generations
A lasting reminder of sacrifice and duty
The unveiling brings together multiple generations of the Welsh Guards community, reinforcing the importance of remembrance within both military and civilian life.
Conclusion
The Welsh Guards Afghanistan Memorial Unveiling in Wrexham on 27 June 2026 will be a powerful and emotional day of remembrance, bringing together those connected through service, sacrifice, and shared history. For JB Property Law, and for Joanne Bowmer and her husband Ashley, the event represents not only a professional and personal connection to the Armed Forces community, but also a commitment to ensuring that those who served are never forgotten.
It is a day of reflection, respect, and enduring remembrance.
