Who is Joanne?
Joanne Bowmer PF.NALP, Q.Inst.Pa, E.C.Dip,
Director, Consultant Partner at Carbon Law Partners & Military Property Specialist.
Joanne Bowmer is an award-winning property lawyer with more than 25 years' experience in residential property and the founder of the business.
Her career started as an office junior. Through hard work, determination and studying alongside full-time employment, she progressed through the profession to become a senior property lawyer, leading a conveyancing department at one of Cumbria's oldest law firms before establishing her own consultancy. Today, Joanne combines that depth of traditional property experience with a very different approach to how clients experience conveyancing. Joanne is now an independent Consultant who delivers her legal services through Carbon Law Partners.
She believes clients should have direct access to an experienced lawyer who knows their transaction, understands their circumstances and is available when they need them. No call centres, no passing clients from one department to another and no treating a house move as simply another file number.
Military Property
Joanne has developed a particular specialism in Armed Forces property and conveyancing, regularly acting for serving personnel, Reservists, veterans and military families across England and Wales.
Married to Army veteran Ashley, Joanne has lived through the realities of military life herself. Joanne understands that an Armed Forces property transaction can involve much more than the legal process itself. Forces Help to Buy, Service Family Accommodation, march-out dates, postings, deployments, BFPO addresses and the practical realities of moving at military pace can all form part of the picture.
She personally oversees her Armed Forces property transactions from instruction through to completion, ensuring clients have continuity and access to someone who genuinely understands the environment they are navigating.
Specialist Property Expertise
Although Armed Forces property is now a major part of Joanne's work, it is not the entirety of her property expertise. She has particular experience in unregistered property, historic title investigation and complex title issues, an interest that began long before she became a lawyer.
Growing up in a family of historians, Joanne developed an early fascination with old documents, historic buildings and the stories behind them. That interest has developed into a specialist skill, allowing her to investigate historic deeds, untangle unusual title arrangements and help clients with properties that are far from straightforward. Her wider experience includes complex leasehold matters, Tyneside flats, Church Commissioners' properties and other specialist residential transactions.

Beyond Property Law
Joanne is passionate about supporting the wider Armed Forces community and believes that supporting military families has to extend beyond the transaction on the conveyancing file. She is actively involved in Armed Forces Covenant work, supports organisations and charities connected with the military community and is the co-founder of Beyond The CV, an initiative supporting military spouses who are building careers and businesses alongside military life.
Outside work, Joanne lives in Cumbria with her husband Ashley and their family. Her Armed Forces connection continues to be a significant part of her life, even though Ashley has now left the Army.
Who is Aimee?
Aimee Summers
Executive Conveyancer - Residential Property
Aimee is an experienced residential property consultant and an important part of the Joanne Bowmer team, looking after our residential property work outside of our specialist Armed Forces service.
As Executive Conveyancer, Aimee deals with the day-to-day management of residential property transactions from instruction through to completion, working directly with clients to keep their transactions moving and to make what can be a complicated process as straightforward as possible.
Her experience covers a broad range of residential property matters, including sales and purchases, buy-to-let, bridging transactions and shared ownership, as well as working with property investors and clients with more complex requirements.
While Joanne's specialist focus is the Armed Forces community, Aimee provides the same personal, hands-on approach to clients buying and selling outside of that community.
She is practical, straightforward and focused on getting things done – exactly the approach we want our clients to experience throughout their property transaction.
Aimee works closely with Joanne and the wider team, helping to ensure that clients receive direct access to an experienced property professional rather than being passed around a large conveyancing department.

Who is Amy?
Amy Lovely
Legal Assistant – Armed Forces Property
Amy joined Joanne Bowmer following an overwhelming response to our search for someone to help with admin work with a genuine understanding of military life and the Armed Forces community.
As a military spouse herself, Amy brings first-hand experience of the realities that come with service life – postings, deployments, moving home, the constant uncertainty of military life and the challenges that can come with trying to build a career alongside it.
Amy is now developing her career within the legal profession and is undertaking training with the National Association of Licensed Paralegals (NALP) as she begins working towards her legal qualifications.
Amy has a particular interest in making the legal side of buying and selling a home feel less daunting for members of the Armed Forces community. She understands that a military house move isn't always simply a house move – there can be postings, deployments, Service Family Accommodation, march-out dates, BFPO addresses, Help to Buy, Forces Help to Buy and a whole host of terminology and deadlines that can make the process feel very different from a typical civilian transaction.
Amy is also the co-founder of Beyond The CV, an initiative she established with Joanne to support military spouses who are building careers and businesses alongside military life.
Born from their own experiences of the challenges military spouses can face when trying to develop a career around postings, deployments and family life, Beyond The CV aims to challenge outdated assumptions about military spouses and highlight the skills, resilience and experience they bring to the workplace.
Through Beyond The CV, Amy is involved in supporting military spouses, working with employers and sharing real stories from the military spouse community.
Her own career journey is a big part of that message from military spouse and applicant to member of a professional property team, and now beginning formal training towards her legal qualifications.
And yes, she is still very much involved in our social media, events and the occasional piece of organised chaos – because apparently learning law wasn't enough to keep her busy!
Who is Macey-May?
Macey-May Austin
Admin Assistant – Residential Property
Macey is one of the newest members of the Joanne Bowmer team, joining us as an Administrative Assistant and providing valuable support across both our Residential Property and Armed Forces Property departments.
But there's a little more to Macey than meets the eye!
Not only is she a military spouse and mum to three young children, she's also a former Army Reservist, having served with C Company, Princess of Wales's Royal Regiment (PWRR), an infantry regiment of the British Army. This means Macey brings something particularly valuable to our team: an understanding of military life from both sides of the uniform.
Having experienced service herself, as well as the realities of being a military spouse and raising a young family, Macey understands that military life isn't always straightforward. From the demands of service to the challenges of balancing family life, she knows that flexibility, understanding and a good sense of humour can go a very long way!
Within the business, Macey works in the Armed Forces Property team and the wider Residential Property department.
Her role involves helping to keep the day-to-day administration organised, supporting the legal team, managing paperwork and ensuring that the countless little jobs that keep a busy property practice running smoothly are taken care of.
Macey is also looking forward to developing her knowledge of the legal profession, with ambitions to undertake further training and build a long-term career in law.
Outside work, Macey enjoys spending time with her family, cooking and getting creative whenever she gets the opportunity, although finding uninterrupted time for any of those things with three young children is probably a military operation in itself!
Another member of the regimental family, another perspective around our table, and another reason why supporting the Armed Forces community means so much to us.
Ashley Bowmer
Kingsman, Army Veteran & Armed Forces Ambassador
Ashley proudly served for ten years in the British Army as a Kingsman with the 4th Battalion, The Duke of Lancaster's Regiment, including operational tours of Iraq and Afghanistan. His military career, and the experiences that came with it, continue to shape the values at the heart of JB Property Law.
Although Ashley isn't involved in the legal work, his lived experience provides an invaluable perspective on the realities of military life. From deployments and postings to the challenges faced by service families, he helps ensure that JB Property Law's Armed Forces service is built on genuine understanding rather than assumption.
As Joanne's husband, Ashley has been part of the journey of building JB Property Law from the very beginning. He is passionate about supporting serving personnel, veterans and military families, regularly attending Armed Forces events, charity fundraisers and remembrance services alongside Joanne.
Ashley also acts as the firm's Armed Forces Ambassador, helping to strengthen relationships with the military community and supporting the initiatives that sit at the heart of the firm's commitment to those who serve.
Fun Fact
Ashley may have left the Army, but the Army definitely hasn't left Ashley. Household chores are still issued like military orders, complete with military timings. "I'll do it later" isn't a recognised time... it's 1800hrs, not 1801!
Bella Bowmer
Chief Happiness Officer & Head of Shredding
Bella is the heart of the JB Property Law office and takes her role as Chief Happiness Officer very seriously. Whether she's welcoming visitors, supervising the team from the comfiest spot in the office, or ensuring everyone takes a well-earned break, Bella believes a happy team delivers the very best service.
When she's not providing moral support, Bella can usually be found carrying out important quality control on any cardboard deliveries, inspecting parcels, or demonstrating her exceptional document shredding skills (strictly on dog toys, of course!).
Outside of work, Bella enjoys long walks in the beautiful Cumbrian countryside, treats of every description, and making sure nobody leaves the office without giving her a fuss.
