Each year on 1 July, we remember one of the most significant and poignant events in British military history – the Battle of the Somme.
Beginning on 1 July 1916, the Somme offensive became one of the largest battles of the First World War. It is particularly remembered for the immense sacrifices made by British and Commonwealth forces, with thousands of soldiers losing their lives on the very first day.
More than a century later, the Battle of the Somme remains a powerful reminder of courage, duty and resilience in the face of unimaginable hardship.

The Importance of Remembrance
Across the United Kingdom, families continue to honour relatives who served during the First World War. Many communities have memorials listing the names of local men who never returned home, ensuring their sacrifices are never forgotten.
For many of those soldiers, the thought of home provided comfort during some of the darkest moments of the war. Letters sent from the front often spoke of family, community and the hope of returning to familiar surroundings.
Today, those themes remain as important as ever.
Why Home Matters
At JB Property Law, we help people at important moments in their lives, whether they are buying their first home, moving closer to family, or dealing with the estate of a loved one.
While our work is very different from the events we remember on 1 July, the concept of home remains at the heart of both stories. Home represents security, belonging, family and the future. Values that many servicemen and women have fought to protect throughout our nation's history.
Supporting the Armed Forces Community
The armed forces community continues to play an important role across the UK. Veterans, serving personnel and military families contribute enormously to our local communities, often making significant sacrifices in service to others.
As we mark the anniversary of the Battle of the Somme, we take a moment to reflect on those who served, those who never returned, and the families whose lives were changed forever.
Lest We Forget
On this anniversary of the Battle of the Somme, we remember the courage and sacrifice of all those who served during the First World War.
Their legacy lives on in our communities, our freedoms and the values we continue to cherish today.
Lest We Forget.
