Forces Help to Buy Conveyancing
The Forces Help to Buy (FHTB) scheme was introduced to support Armed Forces personnel in purchasing a home by providing an interest-free loan to assist with deposits and other property-related costs. The scheme can be used for first-time purchases, moving to a new home, or in some circumstances, extending an existing property.
Eligible service personnel may be able to borrow up to 50% of their annual salary, up to a maximum of £25,000. The loan is repaid through monthly salary deductions over a number of years.
At JB Property Law, we understand that Forces Help to Buy transactions can involve additional paperwork, deadlines and coordination with lenders and the Ministry of Defence. Our team is here to help make the process as straightforward and stress-free as possible.

We do do not make any additional charges for you using a Forcs Help to Buy.

Understanding the Forces Help to Buy Process
The Forces Help to Buy scheme involves several stages alongside your standard property purchase:
1. Eligibility Application
You will need to apply through the Joint Personnel Administration (JPA) system and obtain approval before exchange of contracts.
2. Mortgage Approval
Most buyers will also require a mortgage. Your lender will assess affordability alongside the Forces Help to Buy loan.
3. Property Searches & Legal Work
Once your offer is accepted, your conveyancer will carry out legal checks, review contracts and investigate the property title.
4. Exchange of Contracts
Before exchange, your Forces Help to Buy funds must be approved and all mortgage requirements satisfied.
5. Completion
On completion day, funds are transferred and ownership of the property officially passes to you.

A Personal Message from Our Founder’s Husband, a Veteran
As an army veteran, I am immensely proud that my wife is in a position to support those who have served our nation, along with their families.
I served as Kingsman Bowmer with the 4th Battalion, Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment, and deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan. While I was fortunate not to suffer lasting hardship, many others have. Equally, not everyone deploys, but that in no way diminishes the value of their service. We all take the same oath, and behind every one of us stands a family who shares in that commitment and sacrifice.
Those who serve, past and present, rarely seek recognition or assistance. This offering is not about fanfare, but rather a quiet gesture of respect and gratitude.
Best of British to you all, and thank you.
Ash
